Jeans for Genes triumph!

Andrew | September 17, 2007 | 3:13 pm

Over the weekend of the 16th/17th September, in support of the fantastic charity ‘Jeans for Genes’, Bolton sailing club assembled a team to compete in the 41st 24hr race.

As ‘Jeans for Genes’ tirelessly raises funds for research into serious and often life-threatening genetic disorders that affect thousands of children, not least in the UK where one baby in every 33 is born with such a disorder or birth defect, it seemed a small effort for the team to endeavour to race a GP14 sailing dinghy for 24hrs to raise funds to help the pioneering research into developing treatments and bring great hope to many families. 24 Hour Race

| September 17, 2007 | 10:08 am

Well, after a good 11 hour sleep last night I can report that the A team came 1st and the B team came 18th.

Some very good performances by both teams gave us our best combined score ever (so I’m told). From the A team perspective, it was a very tough race as Adam and Chris in the Sail4Cancel boat proved to be very competitive over their entire 24 hour sail (Yes – they sailed for 24 hours non-stop!).

Well done and thanks to both teams and many thanks to those others who helped out over the weekend, including the Shevelans, Geoff Benson, Dave & Pauline Senior (and apologies to others I’ve not mentioned here – my head’s a little fuzzy still).
Special tanks also to Jeans for Genes for their support and Speedsails. Also to Ian Platt and Mike Critchley for the use of their boats.
